Biochemistry and Biology of Plant Volatiles

Principally all organisms produce volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that play important roles in their communication with the environment. The Tholl lab uses biochemical, molecular, and genomic tools to investigate the metabolism and function of plant VOCs as intra- and inter-specific signals in defense responses against microorganisms and herbivores above- and belowground. We also explore the biosynthesis of insect pheromones with possible applications in integrated pest management.
